Rando Lorraine-Occitanie
In May and June 2025, I set out to hike from Dieuze, in Lorraine, to Toulouse, in the Occitanie Region with my two dogs Asti and Mika. This took 50 days, and 830 km. We finished a week short, in Montpellier, due to a heat wave. Below, a sample of the beauty of the Massif des Vosges and of the Massif Central.
Les Vosges
Dans le Beaujolais Vert
Vers la Grange du Bois, pres de Jougne, direction Cenves
Lichen like these mean that the air is very pure. We are close to Saint Bonnet le Froid, famous mushroom country, and home to a Michelin 3 star restaurant, chez Marcon.
28 May 25 Le mont Mézenc
Tired but happy, on top of the world at the Mont Mézenc
1st of June, a month since we started! On the water divide GR7 route, after the Hangman’s path, where we spent the night. The air is full of the smell of white narcisses.
Les narcisses blanches
Le Mont Lozere! 147 years after Stevenson reached it with his donkey Modestine.
Dans les Cévennes Protestantes. Grazing in the afternoon between storms.
Picture Perfect. A watercolour sky, a painter’s paradise.
Saint Germain de Calberte, the land is starting to look very much like Provence
Early sunrise above Valleraugue, our bivouac last night.
Above Valleraugue, a meditative moment.
Carrying the saddlebag is getting tedious. When do we go home?
At the bottom of the Cirque de l’Infernet, nearly at our destination, Saint Guilhelm le Désert. So hot! we are walking through burnt woods.
Happy Mika, he knows we are close to the village.
